TWO SOCKS MEMORIAL FUND
Beautiful soul, beloved friend and compassionate teacher.
Quite unexpectedly, our beloved Two Socks crossed over the rainbow bridge on March 18th, 2022, at the glorious age of 35. Two Socks was a truly special horse, and we are honored to have shared his joy and warmth of spirit with so many individuals. No matter who was with him at that moment, Two Socks made them feel like they were the most important person in the world. In his nine years as a member of our program, he carried many riders; some learning to trot or ride independently for the first time, some needing a horse whose calmness eased their anxiety, and some who he challenged with his love of jumping. On the ground, he was extremely intuitive and would give each person exactly what they needed at that moment. He allowed himself to be subject to inept grooming, post-it notes all over his body as kids learned parts of a horse, and had the most impressive begging expression if treats were a possibility. He comforted many who were suffering from illness, grieving from loss, and those who simply needed to be in the presence of a kind and caring soul. He loved having the inside of his ears scratched, and we will always fondly remember how he scrunched up his right nostril when he was thinking deeply about something.
We have established a Memorial Fund in Two Socks' honor, and have received $15,000 in matching grant funds. Initially, monies will go towards his cremation and memorial service, and to help Access Equestrian attain another horse to fill his workload; although we know that horse may never fill the spot in our heart that broke or the shoes left empty when Two Socks passed.
Most importantly, the Two Socks Memorial Fund will go to fund the addition of a very special program at Access Equestrian. We are in the process of getting licensure to begin a trauma informed program that provides mentoring and support to children in foster care and those newly adopted. Those of us who were close to Two Socks believe that he is guiding us to take this on, and that it is the type of work that Two Socks would have excelled in. The program will launch in September 2022, and an ongoing perpetual fund will provide scholarships to those children who need assistance in order to participate. Our goal is to raise $30,000 by June 15, 2022. We appreciate your support.
